Eyeing

When we take the time to truly see, to be aware and focused, the power, potential, beauty and tragedy of life meets our gaze with full force!
Exploring life from self to world has been my path from when I first began drawing. In “Eyeing,” I do so as an elder who has become one with the grains of time. My unflinching artist’s eye looks out as does the owl’s! I feel connected to the symbology of the owl relating to wisdom, femininity, magic, mystery — and death.
At the center, a child’s hand reaches a small eye as it begins the watery whirl of life — yet again! The large bird appears startlingly close — so near that it has merged into the wood grained textures of my hair and face. Many eyes are alert with concern for immediate and future survival.
